Physics and Education    

Noyce Scholars Program
A collaboration between Physics Faculty Dr. Eric Hagedorn (PI) and Drs. Olga Kosheleva (Teacher Education), Laura Serpa (Geological Sciences), Amy Wagler (Mathematical Sciences), and Ronald Wagler (Teacher Education)(co-PI's) AND the El Paso and Ysleta Indpendent School Districts.  This $1.2 million dollar grant will support the recruitment, preparation, placement, and support of high school mathematics & science teachers in El Paso.

Physics and Chemistry    

Growth inhibition of kidney stones by herbal extracts (Drs. Felicia S. Manciu and William Durrer, Department of Physics, Drs. Russell Chianelli and Mahesh Narayan, Department of Chemistry) 

Spectroscopic analysis of dye-mineral composites (Dr. Felicia S. Manciu, Department of Physics, Dr. Russell Chianelli, Department of Chemistry)

Spectroscopic studies of supported industrial catalysts (Dr. Felicia S. Manciu, Department of Physics, Dr. Russell Chianelli, Department of Chemistry, Dr. Gilles Berhault, IRCELYON France). Collaboration started on Summer 2006, funded by DOE (BES) "Gateway Program" (Chianelli, PI).

Physics and Mechanical Engineering    

Highly energetic materials based on aluminum hydride compounds (Dr. Felicia S. Manciu Department of Physics, Drs. Ahsan Choudhuri and Arturo Bronson, Department of Mechanical Engineering).  Collaboration started on 2008, funded by DOD - Missile Defense Agency (Manciu, PI).

Investigation of WO3-based materials for sensor applications (Dr. Felicia S. Manciu Department of Physics, Dr. Chintalapalle Ramana, Department of Mechanical Engineering).  Collaboration started on 2009, funded by Department of Energy (Manciu, PI).

Study of multi-walled carbon nanotubes synthesized by flame (Dr. Felicia S. Manciu Department of Physics, Dr. Ahsan Choudhuri, Department of Mechanical Engineering)

Spectroscopic investigations of materials for tissue engineering (Dr. Felicia S. Manciu Department of Physics, Dr. Tao Xu, Department of Mechanical Engineering).
