Summer Research Opportunities for Summer 2014

A wide variety of summer research opportunities are available for you, but you must apply and be selected.  Carefully review the requirements for each one that interests you, and if you meet them, consider applying for several.  In general, programs are looking for students who have had some physics courses, so while you may be sufficiently prepared after your sophomore (second) year, the summer after your junior (third) year might be optimum.  Generally, the higher your GPA, the better.  You will need at least two letters of recommendation from professors/instructors who know you.  Many positions require U.S. citizenship, but not all.  Most positions strongly desire applicants from underrepresented populations in physics, which includes Hispanics, African-Americans, and women.
