Hagedorn_2Dr. Eric Hagedorn, Interim Department Chair

Welcome to the Department of Physics at UTEP.  These are very exciting times for our department.  Our undergraduate enrollment remains strong after the explosive growth of the past five years.  These undergraduates, along with our graduate students (wonderful students from around the world), are doing amazing things:  participating in prestigious REU programs around the country, presenting research at national meetings, exciting local school children with "Physics Circuses," and even traveling to Washington DC for the third time to participate in the USA Science & Engineering Festival.  Needless to say, we couldn't help these students without dedicated faculty who are deeply involved in a broad spectrum of research topics: experimental and theoretical.  We are currently adding new faculty to the department as well:  an assistant professor who does experimental condensed matter physics and a permanent chair.  Thanks to Dr. Vivian Incera for her leadership over the past five years.  Although she has stepped down as Department Chairperson, Dr. Incera is happily pursuing her research and teaching, adding to the strength of the department.  This webpage - ever a work in progress - is where you can go to find the latest news about our growing department.
